Wall Street Protesters Take to Twitter Barricades

The 99 Percent Use Social Media: Unsurprisingly, social media has played a large role in the “Occupy Wall Street” protests that have been going on. According to this New York Times article, over 200 Facebook pages and Twitter accounts have been created in cities across the country in the past week that are reaching out to find new volunteers and to support discussions about the protesting against economic inequality. Protesters have been using social media sites to organize events and to document progress, like the  WeArethe99Percent Tumblr, which posts pictures of protests all over the country. Like we’ve seen with social activism in the Middle East, social media becomes a valuable tool for organizing groups for a social cause. NYT

The conversation is part of the inaugural Desmond Tutu Peace Lecture in Cape Town, South Africa. The Dalai Lama is also an active tweeter (@DalaiLama) and has a Klout score of 85. Who knew that an exiled spiritual Tibetan leader would be such an active social media user. The Daily Dot

That is the premise behind this blog started by blogger/photographer Foster Huntington. As Huntington puts it, “Think of it as an interview condensed into one question” (with beautiful pictures).
