9 Cool Digital Campaigns from Abroad

Creative advertising often goes unnoticed by those of us in the U.S. We’re often too distracted by things like Super Bowl tweets and glorified pedometers to take much notice of what’s going on in South America or Asia. But awards season is an opportunity to change all that. We dug through some of this year’s winners and entrants to find some cool digital campaigns from around the world you might have missed. Here’s what we found:

Red Tomato Pizza – Dubai
Agency: TBWA\RAAD Dubai

In an attempt to make ordering easier, Red Tomato Pizza shipped wireless fridge magnet devices to their most loyal customers, pre-programmed with their favorite order. Customers simply push one button on the magnet to have their pizza automatically delivered to their door.

Guía Eco – Chile
Agency: Mayo DraftFCB Chile

Users regularly skip pre-roll ads on Youtube, so Guía Eco and DraftFCB decided to use that behavior to their advantage and created ads with “skip behavior” buttons to highlight wasteful behavior.

Bradesco Auto Insurance – Brazil
Agency: AlmapBBDO, Sao Paulo

AlmapBBDO made the most of the iPad’s swipe functionality for this work for Bradesco. Styled as a fake automotive ad, the execution demonstrated why insurance is perfect for those “unexpected events” in life.

Skittles – Australia
Agency: Clemenger BBDO

Skittles let fans “telekinetically” control pieces of candy via its Facebook page for this execution. The combination of users’ webcams and eye-tracking technology brought the idea to life.

Birra 08 – Spain
Agency: DDB Spain

Sometimes on a night out, alcohol can impair your judgement. Spanish beer brand Birra 08 attempted to put the “beer goggles” problem to bed once and for all with its Cats in the Dark app, that uses facial analysis in an attempt to confirm how close what you’re seeing is to reality.

Hijack – Guatemala
Agency: 4am Saatchi & Saatchi

Retailer Hijack used location-based technology to target users with special offers on their mobile devices when they stepped foot in competitors’ stores.

Metro Trains – Australia
Agency: McCann Melbourne

This is a public safety announcement with a twist from Australia’s Metro Trains. The catchy Web video and accompanying song has attracted over 50 million views to date.

The Tokyo Shimbun Newspaper – Japan
Agency: Dentsu Tokyo

Dentsu Tokyo built an augmented reality mobile app to turn the Tokyo Shimbun Newspaper into an educational tool for kids.

Anar Foundation Against Child Abuse – Spain
Agency: Grey Spain

Spain’s Anar foundation used billboards to deliver one message to adults, and a very different one to kids.
