Social Media Strat 101: Antony Young says that social media is not a strategy, but instead it is a venue for marketers. Young uses a very relevant and convincing analogy to make his point: Charlie Sheen and Ashton Kutcher, two brands, same social strategy: get a following on Twitter, interact directly with fans, and generate lots of buzz and conversation; but only one of these celebrity brands is, as Young puts it, “#winning. And it isn’t Charlie Sheen!” Ashton Kutcher (for reasons unknown to me) is incredibly social media and business savvy. Sheen, on the other hand, is all buzz and attracts attention the same way a car wreck commands it. Kutcher has continued his personal brand’s presence across multuple platforms — not just social media — even though his acting career has faded. So basically, if you are a brand, you need to think of ways to socialize you brand, which doesn’t mean just having a social media strategy. AdAge

Well, it seems like the appeal of Tumblr is that it is a little less serious than WordPress and a little more social, and you know, social is kind of a big thing these days. Mashable
