Consumers are telling publishers and brands they want more flexibility and transparency from content providers amid rising prices.

According to a new survey of 5,000 U.S. subscribers, video streaming platforms remain the most popular consumer subscriptions, followed by retail subscriptions. However, 57% have discontinued their subscriptions because of anticipated price hikes. And while more Americans are paying for a subscription they previously accessed for free, subscribers ultimately want better control over costs and content.

But when publishers and brands get it right, they see subscription adoption, especially in streaming video on demand and retail.
