Meet the men of PR: ‘It is a different world for us’
Gender has become the topic du jour in a male-dominated advertising and marketing industry. But the opposite is the case in PR. Of the 14 male PR professionals Digiday reached out for this article, many felt isolated as the rare man at work, especially when they serve sectors like music, entertainment and lifestyle. A few even experienced some form of outright sexism. “Most PR firms have much more of a female culture,” said a senior executive from a major PR firm. “PR is a field where in most cases there are more women than men, so the culture shifts in that direction. It is a different world for us.”
