Building for Sustainability

The time for quick fixes is over. Publishers need to move beyond complaining about the duopoly to take control of their futures by focusing on their own strategies, whether that’s subscriptions, making programmatic work, commerce models or video offerings.

Join hundreds of publishing executives at the Digiday Publishing Summit for three days of new connections and honest insight on the future of media.

Creative and Talent Need to Exist Under One Roof

In the rapid evolution of our business (e.g., less money in the print market), the biggest value proposition we have is the most creative talent under one roof. How you’re telling the story and how it’s being distributed need to be interlocked. As publishers explore how to become and remain sustainable in the foreseeable future, it is critical to get this perception in the advertising marketplace to change.

Ignore the Naysayers: For Publishers, Today Presents More Opportunities Than Challenges

Publishers need to get past overheated claims about the supposedly dire straits of the industry. In fact, more opportunities for monetization exist than every before. Now it it's tenth year, Business Insider - now, "Insider Inc.," the umbrella brand of BI and Insider and more - long ago embraced leaning-in to monetization trends. From programmatic to distributed content, the company is now positioned more strongly than ever. Pete Spande, Insider Inc's Chief Revenue Officer, will discuss the company's strategy for thriving despite industry challenges.

Modernizing Collaboration Between Publishers, Agencies and Clients

As publishers evolve to provide modern value to brand partners, we must also evolve how we're approaching budget planning and collaboration. Publishers no longer sell just media distribution, but their creative expertise, experiences and consulting services. Budget planning should mirror that approach to properly put resources toward developing relationships with desired consumers.

    Working Groups

Attendees will split off into groups focusing on one of three key challenges that publishers face. With guidance from group leaders, each group will meet throughout the summit to work together on a presentation that outlines how to solve the challenge at hand. These will be presented at the end of the summit.

Video - Making video that people want to watch and monetizing its profitability is a huge challenge, especially for publishers without a history of doing it. How publishers approach and invest will go a long way in determining who wins at video.

Platform publishing - Platforms are playing a bigger part in the media ecosystem, eating up most of the digital ad spending and setting the rules for publishers to create, distribute and make money off their content. Publishers can ignore platform giants at their peril.

Reader-revenue models - It is obvious that publishers can't just rely on advertising revenue any longer, so many are moving their focus to different reader-revenue models and verticals to compensate for the lack of advertising revenue coming in.
